With an expanding family and no place to put them, my wife and I decided that it was time to move. We had heard of Mav Hankey from family who had had an excellent experience with her and really liked her approach to finding new homes. There is the old adage that the most stressful events in one’s life are marriage, child birth and moving. After our experience with Mav I think we can take the last one off of the list. On the purchasing side of the equation Mav listened very carefully to what our criteria were and had an excellent sense of what we would like, or not like. We quickly learned to trust her judgement and advice about houses, making the entire experience really quite enjoyable. In a very short period of time we were able to find the home that our family can treasure for many years to come. When it came time to sell our old home, Mav provided advice and a plan for us to get the top selling price for our property. It worked, and even in this hot market, over a year later that property remains the benchmark for the street. Mav has a welcome ability to calm anxious nerves and provide valuable, expert advice; I would (and have) recommend her services to anyone looking for a less stressful experience in the property market.

Mav was recommended to us by a friend, who was very satisfied with her service. What we liked the most about Mav, was her ability to understand what we were looking for in a house. She didn’t waste our time on showings that we would not be interested in and had a good understanding of what we were looking for. When it came to advice on placing a bid, Mav gave us some good strategies … and we got the house we wanted and 9 others went home disappointed. We also like the way Mav didn’t try to sugar coat things. If there was a problem with a house, she let us know.

Selling our house was a lot of work. But thanks to Mav, she made the job easier and fun with her great sence of humour. Our house never looked better when it came to the showings. The virtual tour that Mav had done was fantastic! But the best part was that after researching other houses in the area she came up with a nice asking price for our house and not only got it on the day of asking, but got considerably more! We like to joke with her that she raised the bar for house prices in our neighbourhood. If there were qualities to describe Mav, it would be planning, attention to detail, execution and follow up.

Six months of searching, five lost houses, six offers, and finally we have our first home! What kept us sane throughout the process was that we had Mav on our side.
Going above and beyond is not the exception for Mav, it is simply the norm.

She gave her honest advice and opinion about each property she showed to us, was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the buying process, and truly held our hand through the often stressful and always emotional journey of the first-time home buyer. Mav was exceptionally patient with us even after our home search neared the half-year mark. She was always available on the phone to answer questions, offer her opinion and provide information. Any queries we had about particular properties were answered in record time, and often she had additional information for us as well.

Mav is the kind of agent who will pop into a corner store to ask about the neighbourhood, or stop and speak with a neighbour about how they enjoy living on the street. She looked at all the properties we were interested in before first showing them to us in order to eliminate homes that didn’t fit the parameters of what we were looking for. She is educated on home construction, and flashlight in hand, would often duck into crawl spaces to look at a home’s support structure or inspect a furnace. When we were really interested in a property, she could be relied on to gather as much information about the home and the area she could collect and pass on. Further, she was honest with us about home value, how to make our offers, and always had our best interests in mind.

Aside from being a truly fantastic agent, Mav is an exceptional human being. She is compassionate, thoughtful, considerate, kind, intelligent and has an excellent sense of humour. She has a strong sense of integrity and ethics, which is particularly important in the field of real estate. When we were disheartened about our search, she remained optimistic and resilient. We could trust and depend on her, and we always felt taken care of. The only aspect of searching for a home we will miss is that we will no longer see Mav on a regular basis!

When the selling agent told us the house was ours, Mav was as excited for us as we were for ourselves because she loves her job, cares about the people she works with and takes the kind of pride in her profession that you just don’t often see. Although we are thrilled with our home and don’t plan to move anytime soon, Mav Hankey will be referred by us to anyone we learn is looking to buy or sell a home!

As a single female living in Toronto, real estate can be a very overwhelming and somewhat intimidating business. In making the decision to sell my first home there was only one Realtor I trusted to do the job.
